The coastline to the south of Puerto Viejo is picture perfect—probably the best in the country. A great way to spend the day is to hire a bicycle, grab a snorkel and mask and head south stopping at some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Punta Uva has great snorkeling with a stunning beach. Make sure you check out the cliff path up to the natural bridge, or head down to Manzanillo for some first class caves.
Surfing is a big part of the South Caribbean culture. Lessons can be organized
by the hostel or you can give it a go yourself and rent a board by the day or hour.
Manzanillo is the town at the end of the road with its quiet Caribbean feel. Just behind the town is the Gandoca-Manzanillo refuge, one of the many national parks in the country with a jungle trail leading to Punta Mona. You have a good chance of seeing monkeys, and other wildlife along the trail. Waterfalls are also a short bicycle ride from the hostel ask the reception area and they will be happy to point you in the right direction.
